How Long Will A Negative Mark Stay On My Credit Report Part Two

In the last article in this series I wrote about how long different marks remain on your credit report. I mentioned that mistakes will be removed immediately, soft inquiries will have no effect, and hard inquiries can hang around on your credit report for two years. Late payments have the capacity to do way more damage.

Today In The Collections Industry

The collections industry has grown so huge in the last couple of years. The reason for this is that collections and recoveries are usually outsourced business functions. It would be unfathomable for a creditor to handle retrieving debt from all of their accounts, so the creditors call the collections agencies.

Ambulance Colections Decision Put Off By County Officials

Commissioners on Monday postponed a decision to hire a collection agency because of unsettled ambulance bills acquired in unincorporated districts of Flagler County. Instead, county staff will do more research and the item will be returned to commissioners for review sometime in July.

Scranton Tax Payers May Have Received A Collection Letter They May Not Have Deserved

More than 200 Scranton taxpayers may have gotten a letter from a debt collection company that they did not deserve. The notices are for unpaid garbage fees that may have actually been paid. According to officials, the garbage bill itself for 2009 could be to blame for more than 200 collection notices sent to city taxpayers in error last week.

The Proposed Debt Collection Act Advances In New Jersey

In one of its final acts before authorizing the state budget late last month, the Assembly gave its endorsement to the New Jersey Fair Debt Collection Practices Act by a 60-18 vote. That sent the proposition to the state Senate, where it at first will be considered by the Commerce Committee.
